Yokohama Stadium Hits a Home Run with the Q-SYS Audio, Video and Control Ecosystem
Having first opened its gates in 1978, Yokohama Stadium in Japan is currently home field for the DeNA BayStars baseball team. It also plays host to concerts for popular artists from around the world, and will be one of the primary baseball venues for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. When the time came to overhaul the stadium’s AV system, Yokohama Stadium chose the Q-SYS Ecosystem from QSC to handle networked audio and control processing throughout.
Yokohama Stadium chose the Q-SYS Ecosystem because of its open, IT-friendly architecture and its third-party integration capabilities. The audio processing/distribution and software-based control is handled by a redundant pair of Q-SYS Core 510i Integrated processors. Third-party Dante™-enabled audio mixers and amplifiers were also deployed throughout the stadium and integrated with Q-SYS using the Q-SYS CDN64 I/O card.
The integrator, Tsushin Setsubi Engineering, built custom user control interfaces (UCI) with Q-SYS UCI Editor that provide a full audio routing matrix, EQ presets and the ability to control the audio level to each zone in the venue. These UCI’s are accessible to AV support technicians on native Q-SYS Touch Screen Controllers, and because control for Q-SYS is software-based, the stadium was able to add this functionality without additional hardware-based control processors.
>The end-user also needed to allow their AV technicians to monitor audio, including third-party amplifier status, from a single location. Using the Q-SYS Scripting Engine, the integrator utilized Lua scripting to create custom user components that enable status monitoring of the third-party amplifiers deployed throughout the stadium. In the event of a fault, the AV tech will be able to identify the problem amplifier and its location from a Q-SYS touch screen or from separate monitors in the stadium’s control room.
“The flexibility of Q-SYS really makes it a great choice for a stadium application,” said Yuri Sato, system integrator at Tsushin Setsubi Engineering. “By deploying a platform that combines audio and control processing with third-party device integration, we were able to deliver a more tightly integrated user experience. The system is easy to use, reliable and most importantly, the end-user is thrilled with the capabilities of their Q-SYS system.”
